Overview The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Principal Applied Scientist with a strong deep learning background to lead the development of industry-leading technology with multimodal systems.

The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role. Responsibilities

Define key research directions and adopt or invent new machine learning techniques. Conduct rigorous experiments, publish results, and translate research into practice. Develop long-term strategies, persuade teams to adopt them, and set goals for delivery. Participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship, and leadership development. Serve as a key scientific resource in full-cycle development from conception to maintenance. Lead scientific reviews, scrutinize experimental design, modeling, verification, and foster shared understanding. Educate and keep the scientific community up to date on advanced techniques and trends. Mentor and contribute to hiring and developing scientists and leads. Qualifications

Graduate degree in Computer Science/Math or related field; experience building complex, real-time AI/ML/NLP systems with customer delivery. PhD with specialization in AI, NLP, ML, or computational cognitive science with 10+ years of combined academic and research experience. First-author research on scaling laws, evaluation metrics, data mixture optimization, data efficiency, neural network architectures in top-tier journals and conferences. Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to sell ideas to executive-level decision makers. Proven track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects with evolving requirements; functional thought leader. Mentorship experience and ability to train researchers; strong leadership in scientific decisions. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year to $309,400/year, with variations based on location, experience, and knowledge. Amazon is a total compensation company.
