Job Summary The Core Tax Services (CTS) Senior Manager – ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues. The Senior Manager applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues, communicates potential risks and anticipated changes in tax policy, and may contribute to marketing, networking and business development within area(s) of specialization. The role may include providing written tax advice to clients.

Tax Compliance: Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and ensure self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM). Conduct top-level review of tax work products, resolve tax issues with the client, involve specialists as appropriate. Communicate issues identified in tax accrual reviews to client and Assurance. Plan and review the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing; monitor engagement progress and time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior; ensure timely billing and collection of A/R; manage client relationships and expectations; provide timely tax advice to clients. Research: Identify when research is needed; frame issues to be researched clearly; report analysis concisely; identify complex issues for the engagement team and provide research methodology; train managers/staff on research skills and ASC 740 tax issue framing; involve firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740-10 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Apply Firm policies, standards, and TQM to ASC 740; apply ASC 740-10 and communicate components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client; coordinate with Assurance to plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope, and delivery dates; review tax provisions and workpapers; utilize and manage Specialized Tax Services (STS) as needed. Tax Consulting: Develop, recommend, and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing taxes; assess applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client; develop and implement a work plan to organize STS assistance on ongoing projects; serve as a technical resource; ensure client service teams comply with Firm policy regarding Written Tax Advice (WTA); frame projects for effective delegation to seniors and associates. Tax Specialization: Develop in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more taxation areas; may organize internal CPE training; may train and mentor managers/seniors/associates on ASC 740. Strategy Development: Propose new or improved ideas to benefit clients or Firm (e.g., reducing taxes or costs); suggest improvements to previous work products; may lead marketing campaigns; present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients; collaborate with the Firm’s National Tax and STS to deliver high-quality deliverables on ASC 740. Other duties as required Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises associates and senior associates on projects. Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments. Trains associates and seniors on current software tools. Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates. Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates. Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, required. Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred. Experience
Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required. Experience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC 740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required. Prior supervisory experience, required. Multinational client experience, preferred. License / Certifications
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) (or the equivalent) required. Software
Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat, preferred. Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA; proficient in tax compliance software including GoFileRoom, GoSystem RS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers, preferred.
