Accounting & Finance Executive Recruiter | LHH Accounting + Finance
Our client, a mission-driven non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced
Interim CFO
to provide strategic financial leadership and stability during a time of transition. The ideal candidate will bring deep non-profit financial expertise, hands-on leadership, and the ability to support the organization through budgeting, audit preparation, and compliance processes. Key Responsibilities: Lead all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and compliance Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and trends to executive leadership and the Board of Directors Oversee month-end close, grant tracking, and fund accounting processes Manage preparation for external audit and ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit regulatory requirements (IRS, 990, etc.) Collaborate with development and program teams to align financial strategies with mission objectives Mentor and support finance team members, improving processes and documentation as needed Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director/CEO and Board on financial matters Qualifications: Proven experience as a CFO or senior finance leader in a non-profit organization Deep knowledge of fund accounting, restricted/unrestricted funds, and grant reporting Strong understanding of non-profit compliance requirements (e.g., IRS Form 990, Uniform Guidance) Hands-on leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working closely with the team CPA or MBA preferred but not required Experience with Sage Intacct a plus Competitive hourly rate or monthly retainer Flexible work arrangement (on-site, hybrid, or remote depending on location) Opportunity to make a meaningful impact during a critical period of organizational growth and change Seniority level
