Location: Winston-Salem, NC or Charlotte, NC Position Summary The Director of Communications will be responsible for member service communications, internal communications, and external communications and public relations (PR). This role will collaborate closely with the CEO’s Chief of Staff to ensure alignment with strategy, goals, values, and mission. The role also involves working with HR and various Business Line stakeholders to support communications across the company. The ideal candidate is an experienced, results-driven communicator capable of engaging diverse audiences through clear, consistent, and impactful messaging. Key Responsibilities Member Service Communications:
Oversee development of all member communications, ensure consistency, clarity, accuracy, and relevance. Activities include scripting for member calls, crafting email communications, and managing social media and review responses. Collaborate with member service teams to enhance member experience and manage feedback. Internal Communications:
Work with the CEO’s Chief of Staff and HR to develop internal communication strategies, foster a positive culture, and manage newsletters, intranet content, and town halls. Communicate major initiatives and changes effectively. External Communications & PR:
Develop strategies to promote the credit union’s brand and initiatives. Manage media relations, craft press releases, monitor industry trends, and establish KPIs to measure effectiveness. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; Master’s preferred. 10+ years in corporate communications, with focus on external, public relations, and internal communications, preferably in financial services. Proven experience in multi-channel communication strategies. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal skills. Ability to handle crisis communications professionally. Strong media relationship skills and strategic thinking. Knowledge of financial services or credit unions is a plus.
