The Opportunity
The City of Decatur is seeking a forward-thinking Director of Information Technology to provide vision, leadership, and innovation in managing the City’s technology infrastructure and services. This executive role sets the strategic direction of IT operations, ensuring technology enhances efficiency, security, and service delivery across all departments.
As a key member of the City’s executive team, the Director oversees enterprise systems, networks, telecommunications, and cybersecurity while driving adoption of emerging technologies. This role also serves as the City’s Chief Security Officer and Fiber Optic Administrator, ensuring reliable, secure, and future-ready technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for citywide IT systems and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain the IT master plan, including automation and technology integration strategies.
- Oversee enterprise systems, network operations, document management, and telecommunications.
- Serve as Chief Security Officer, ensuring cybersecurity protocols, data protection, and disaster recovery.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop IT staff while fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Prepare and manage the IT budget, contracts, and vendor relationships.
- Represent the City in regional technology initiatives and partnerships.
Ideal Candidate
The City is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and strategic technology leader with extensive experience managing enterprise information systems, cybersecurity, and technology infrastructure. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments and has the ability to drive digital transformation while maintaining strong relationships with City departments, community partners, and technology providers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10 years of experience in IT, including at least 5 years in a director-level or similar leadership role.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise systems, GIS, fiber optic networks, and telecommunications.
- Strong project management, personnel supervision, and policy development skills.
- Proven ability to lead cybersecurity strategy and data governance initiatives.
Salary range: $135,000–$155,000 (depending on qualifications and experience).
