The Infrastructure Group
Our Infrastructure group builds the foundation for PagerDuty’s platform and includes:
- Cloud Delivery & Site Reliability: Driving scale, resiliency, and performance for our global SaaS platform.
- Automation & Deployment Tooling: Enabling engineering velocity through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automation.
- Observability: Providing visibility, metrics, and insights to power data-driven engineering.
- Data Stores: Operating and scaling distributed storage systems.
- Developer Experience: Ensuring engineering teams have tooling and processes to move quickly.
The mission is to keep PagerDuty’s infrastructure ahead of customer needs—supporting reliable, secure, and efficient growth.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Director of Engineering to lead this critical group. You will set the vision for infrastructure strategy, mentor a team of leaders and engineers, and drive execution of high-impact initiatives. This role combines deep technical work with strategic influence across the organization.
You’ll collaborate with Product, Security, Legal, and Customer teams to ensure infrastructure underpins engineering velocity, customer trust, compliance, and business innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the multi-year strategy for PagerDuty’s infrastructure and platform foundations.
- Own reliability patterns and practices. Set high standards for engineering excellence.
- Lead, mentor, and scale a diverse team of Engineering Managers and technical leaders across geographies.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of PagerDuty’s global SaaS platform.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and Security to deliver large cross-functional initiatives.
- Champion CI/CD maturity, observability, operational rigor, and incident readiness.
- Manage budgets, headcount, and vendor relationships to optimize infrastructure investments.
- Represent Infrastructure to customers, partners, and executives as a trusted voice on tradeoffs.
- Foster a culture of inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and growth.
Basic Requirements
- Proven experience in senior engineering leadership roles, managing multiple layers of managers.
- Significant hands-on technical contributor experience earlier in career.
- Deep knowledge of modern infrastructure and software delivery: high availability, distributed systems, AWS, microservices, containers, CI/CD, observability, and automation.
- Experience building and scaling high-performing, inclusive engineering organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience designing, operating, and scaling large-scale SaaS platforms on AWS or other public clouds.
- Familiarity with core cloud services and patterns (multi-tenancy, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, observability, incident response).
- Experience managing cloud costs, contracts, and vendor relationships.
- Awareness of SaaS compliance and security frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, SOC2, ISO 27001).
- Leadership experience in Infrastructure or Platform Engineering in a SaaS company.
- Experience partnering with SRE teams in a DevOps/on-call environment.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams across time zones.
- Excellent communication skills with executives, customers, and engineers; public speaking a plus.
- Track record coaching engineering leaders across management and technical paths.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution and prioritization.
- Strong business acumen and comfort in customer-facing technical discussions.
- Passion for building collaborative, inclusive engineering teams and cultures.
