Stephanie Lovell Honors Fellowship Program RB). The Stephanie Lovell Honors Program, named in honor of former First Assistant Stephanie Lovell to recognize her contributions to the Attorney General’s Office, offers entry-level attorneys an opportunity to engage in law and policy in the largest public sector legal office in the Commonwealth.
Location: Boston and regional offices (Western, Central, Southeastern regions). Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt with a hybrid model including some remote workdays. Salary: $78,000 with benefits.
Primary Duties
Program Description: The Fellowship Program is a two-year term beginning September 2026 and ending September 2028. The program is an initiative of the office’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and aims to expand opportunities for new lawyers from diverse backgrounds and reflect the diversity of the Commonwealth and communities served. Fellows will experience a variety of practice areas within the Office, including civil rights, health care, consumer protection, environmental protection, criminal prosecution, fair labor, administrative law, data privacy, constitutional defense of the Commonwealth’s laws, and more. Fellows will complete three rotations through different areas and may seek continued employment with the Office during the final rotation. Fellows receive training and guidance from experienced attorneys to develop proficiency and skills, launch their legal careers, and assume substantial responsibility.
All individuals invited to participate must commit to a two-year term and must take the Massachusetts bar exam no later than July 2026. Individuals must be admitted to the bar before the start of their second-year rotation.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Position Requirements : Third-year day or fourth-year evening law students scheduled to graduate in 2026; and current full-time judicial law clerks who received their J.D. prior to 2026 and either began their clerkship upon graduation or accepted and deferred for up to one year and did not practice as an attorney before beginning their clerkship.
Candidate Criteria : Fellows will be selected based on factors including academic ability; knowledge and experience in legal areas (research, advocacy, trial preparation, discovery, investigation, negotiation); legal, professional, or personal experience related to the AGO’s mission; demonstrated engagement and leadership; writing and editing skills; commitment to diverse communities; flexibility and interest in various legal areas; and a commitment to public interest law and a respectful, inclusive work environment.
