Overview

The R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education at Beebe Healthcare is seeking passionate and dynamic physicians to serve as Academic Hospitalists for our growing medical education programs. This is a phenomenal opportunity to join the organization and be an integral part of a growing GME enterprise.

We are seeking either day or evening positions.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care – Provide best practice using evidence based inpatient care for patients across a wide variety of medical conditions. Conduct daily rounds, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of hospitalized patients. Provide inpatient services in such a manner to assure that professional standards are being met on a consistent and regular basis.
  • Manage patient\'s care throughout the entire inpatient stay, including facilitating diagnostic testing and results; scheduling procedures; accelerating patients progress through the healthcare system; and managing utilization and discharge planning.
  • Provide inpatient services in such a manner to assure that professional standards are being met on a consistent and regular basis.
  • Ensure effective communication with patients and their families and their primary care physician regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Coordinate care across specialties and collaborate with consultants and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives; work with the Quality and Safety Committee and other appropriate committees; participate in quality assurance activities and correct deficiencies identified in related studies.
  • Interact in a positive and constructive manner with all team members, patients, resident physicians, students and medical staff members; schedule ancillary testing to be completed promptly when possible.
  • Provide professional services to patients in a timely basis to minimize discharge delays.
  • Serve on medical staff committees as reasonably requested by leadership.
  • Assist in formulating a report on inpatient services to administration on a regular basis, including transfers, referrals and consultations as requested.
  • Participate in problem solving, budget preparation, strategic planning, preparation for state and Joint Commission surveys and other administrative matters.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement and safety objectives, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Follow established Beebe standards, departmental policies, and Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Provide input in a mutually agreed fashion to administration regarding non-physician staff and the performance and duties related to inpatient services.

Teaching and Education

  • Supervise, teach, and mentor medical students, resident physicians, and fellows during their clinical rotations.
  • Priority is to teach and advance learner knowledge and patient safety.
  • Deliver bedside teaching, case presentations, and didactic learning.
  • Foster an environment of learning and professional development, encouraging critical thinking and evidence-based decision making.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of educational curriculum for medical students, resident physicians and fellows.
  • Provide timely and appropriate feedback to learners on a regular basis and assist in their career development.
  • Feedback will be provided formally and informally throughout the educational experience; formal written evaluations must be completed via the approved residency management suite.
  • Actively participates in institutional and program level scheduled meetings, including Faculty Meetings, the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) in collaboration with residency Program Director(s); Attends didactics regularly and presents lectures throughout the year.
  • May assist in the recruiting, interviewing, selection and ranking of prospective residents during recruitment season in collaboration with respective residency Program Director.
  • Participates in academic meetings, conferences and workshops to stay current with emerging trends in hospital medicine and academic medicine.
  • Participates in scholarly activity projects with medical students, resident physicians and/or fellows.
  • Participates in faculty development activities as sponsored by the Office of Medical Education.
  • Communicates regularly with residency Program Director(s) on resident academic progress and with Medical Education leadership and the Medical Director of hospitalist on workflow/operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO medical degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Medical licensure in the state of DE or the ability to obtain licensure in the state of DE with appropriate medical staff appointment
  • At least one year\'s experience in teaching and mentoring of medical students, resident physicians, and/or fellows is strongly preferred
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, including research publications, or presentations is preferred
  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
