Primary Function We are seeking a Staff FPGA Engineer to join the da Vinci Single Port (SP) Platform Electrical Engineering group at Intuitive Surgical. The successful candidate will report to the SP Director of Hardware Engineering and work with a cross-functional team to develop FPGAs for complex mixed-signal PCAs that control the SP Patient Side Cart robotic system. The ideal candidate has a proven track record with the design and integration of FPGAs in mixed-signal PCAs while collaborating with Software and Mechanical Engineers. They should be an experienced troubleshooter at both the board and systems level. Intuitive values small teams and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Job Duties
Own entire FPGA designs from concept to production.
Develop, implement, test and document design solutions.
Continually evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and processes.
Provide input on architectural decisions ranging from FPGA designs to electrical system architecture implementation.
Understand system-level requirements to develop FPGA specification and test protocol documentation.
Collaborate with our FPGA Verification team to identify and implement essential FPGA functional simulation coverage.
Design, implement, and perform in-system verification and validation procedures for FPGA designs to ensure the overall product meets required specifications.
Qualifications Required Skills and Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience designing complex FPGA modules with a University degree
Fluent in System-Verilog/Verilog (VHDL a plus)
Strong foundation in implementing FPGAs with AMD Versal, Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC devices
Strong foundation in using FPGA build tools - AMD Vitis/Vivado/SDK/HLS
Strong foundation in using FPGA simulation tools, environments and test bench development - QuestaSim and UVM preferred
Experience with various communication protocols - DDRX, AXI4, PCIE, SPI, I2C, embedded processing, motor control
Strong foundation in FPGA bringup, debug, and software/system integration
Strong foundation in FPGA verification and validation methods
Experience with programming/scripting languages - C, Python, etc.
Experience with Linux OS
Practical depth of knowledge in analog (low signal and power) and digital design, embedded systems, FPGA design and verification, and statistics
Experience with using lab equipment - oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with the complete product lifecycle from concept to volume production strongly preferred
Experience working with FDA and international requirements for developing medical device products

$208,600 USD - $300,200 USD
Base Compensation Range Region 2:
$177,300 USD - $255,100 USD
