As a Senior Art Director on the Global Amazon Music Brand Creative team, you’ll create visually compelling designs spanning playlist artwork, cultural & brand campaigns, marketing assets, digital out-of-home, and physical experiences that bring our global content to life. From high-impact launches to always-on entities across music, podcasts, and audiobooks, your work will inspire, inform, and connect fans to the artists and creators they love. You’ll work alongside our global team of creative directors, copy writers, strategists and product designers to turn ideas into expressive and on-brand visuals that withhold the cultural expectations of JP fans. You’ll be empowered to test new approaches, and define creative strategy in partnership with local marketing and brand teams. You will welcome feedback as fuel for growth, and constantly evolve your craft in alignment with Amazon Music’s fan obsessed ethos. This role is based in our Tokyo office.

Responsibilities

  • Support a small team of Art Directors and Designers, improving process, creative output, brand toolkit accessibility, and team culture
  • Design high-quality, culturally relevant visuals and motion graphics for various campaigns and events
  • Guide external agencies toward bar-raising creative by writing compelling briefs and closely partnering on creative development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop creative concepts that align with brand and business objectives
  • Contribute to the evolution of Amazon Music’s visual identity across music, podcasts, and audiobooks in the JP market
  • Set and translate creative strategy into clear, cohesive, scalable design systems, templates, and automated graphics
  • Iterate based on performance insights and partner feedback while embracing a test-and-learn mindset
  • Raise the creative bar by leveraging and translating design and motion trends alongside industry innovations (automation, AI, etc.)
  • Act as liaison for other global design teams within Amazon Music Brand Creative team; influencing global style guides, sharing information, results, and inspiration

A day in the life

You will lead the creative development of culturally-relevant brand initiatives from brief to delivery, contributing your brand and motion expertise through design leadership as well as execution. You will partner with local Japan teams as well as global brand teams to expand and refine the design toolkit specifically for Japan, translating the creative approach appropriately. You will identify gaps and propose solutions with strong rationale and backbone. You will guide concepting, provide art direction, and translate feedback into compelling visual output both internally and externally. You will also define goals, communicate regularly with global teams, and build scalable creative processes that support creative excellence and operational efficiencies in a reactive Music Industry environment.

Amazon Music Japan is looking for a driven, experienced Senior Art Director with strong conceptual thinking, flawless design execution and motion skills to join our global Brand Creative team. Based in our Tokyo office, this role will manage a small Design team while shaping how Amazon Music shows up across our Japan channels and content in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of driving compelling creative strategy and execution at an agency or in-house creative team experience
  • Experience leading design teams
  • Experience writing creative briefs and directing creative agencies
  • Experience presenting creative concepts effectively to senior executives
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Japanese and English bilingual both in verbal and writing communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS in visual arts
  • Expertise in After Effects and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications
  • Strong skills in Figma and other presentation software (Canva, Keynote, or Powerpoint)
  • Proven ability to balance creative vision with business needs through new and ambiguous programs
  • Bar-raising portfolio showcasing relevant work in design, motion, and creative campaigns
  • Strong storytelling and pitch development skills
  • Video editing skills
  • Experience utilizing AI and automation to improve efficiencies and creative output
  • Passion for audio entertainment
