Overview
Working at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart team of doers applying industry-leading advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges and transform customer experiences. We invent improvements every day as Amazon Robotics and provide the tools to invent with us in rewarding, fulfilling, and fun ways.
Responsibilities
- The System Engineer plays a crucial role in the Amazon Robotics deployment team, overseeing installation, troubleshooting, integration, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment in new and existing fulfillment centers (FCs).
- Deploy robotic equipment, including working with mechanical systems, electrical, configuring networking, and coordinating software systems.
- Collaborate with a team of 1-5 engineers and an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third-party and Amazon-designed robotics equipment.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders (third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and partner teams) and communicate effectively with internal and external partners and customers.
- Demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments and drive continuous improvement initiatives to prevent recurrences.
- Deploy robotic systems across product life-cycle phases, lead development of process documentation for new products, and modify existing processes.
- Recognize process gaps and take ownership of developing solutions; travel across the US (60–75% travel, with international opportunities available) and potentially relocate to Seattle, Boston, or Austin as required.
- When required, lead projects and teams, ensuring 75% travel, valid US driver’s license, and readiness for field-based work in construction or warehouse environments.
Requirements (Critical Skills)
- Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work primarily in construction or warehouse environments in a field-based role.
- Proficiency in standard office software tools and processes.
- Strong foundational knowledge in robotics or complex electro-mechanical and networked engineering, including knowledge of robotic systems, components, and software.
- Strong bias toward taking independent initiative while reporting efforts to leadership.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to capture lessons learned and drive technical continuous improvement projects.
- Ability to function independently and manage a team of 1-5 engineers and related trades during deployments.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to resolve cross-functional deployment issues.
- Ability to oversee and resolve escalations during robotics deployment, including quality hand-off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, and monitoring system performance.
- Responsible for delivering projects by owning key KPIs around on-time delivery, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability.
- Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Support and guide installation of robotic technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers. Develop detailed knowledge of robotic operation and guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting on site and remotely. Scopes vary and include heavy travel to live warehouses and new construction sites. Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas and lead teams of other engineers on projects.
