Sr. Visual/UI Designer, Amazon Books, Central Creative Overview: We are seeking an experienced Visual Designer to drive the strategic evolution of Kindle's visual experience on behalf of our customers. You will lead complex design initiatives that shape how millions of readers interact with ebooks and contribute to long-term organizational strategy for visual design excellence. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who balances creative excellence with business needs, and can lead complex initiatives across organizational boundaries. You should be comfortable with ambiguous problems and create scalable solutions that elevate the entire design organization. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of digital reading while driving organizational excellence in visual design across Amazon Books. Key responsibilities Define and drive the long-term visual strategy for Kindle's reading experiences across surfaces, balancing customer needs with business goals and technical constraints Lead complex design initiatives requiring coordination across multiple teams Develop scalable design systems and frameworks to enable force multiplication across the Books organization Identify and solve ambiguous design challenges where strategy and solutions are not clearly defined Drive organizational adoption of visual design best practices and standards Present strategic design solutions to senior leadership, articulating both creative vision and business rationale Mentor and develop others while fostering an inclusive design culture Make strategic trade-off decisions balancing short-term needs with long-term sustainability A day in the life As a Senior Visual Designer, you will drive strategic visual initiatives while balancing hands-on creative work. You will lead design reviews with cross-functional partners to align visual direction for reading features and present strategic vision and mood boards to senior stakeholders. Your role includes mentoring designers, creating and validating visual and communication elements such as typography and color palettes for various lighting conditions, defining specifications for scalable graphic asset production, and developing illustration concepts for lock screens on reading devices. Your work will directly influence how millions of readers interact with their books, making reading more engaging and accessible across Amazon's reading experiences. About the team We are part of a 70+ person Research and Design Studio within the Books organization, focused on inspiring readers by making it easy to read more and get more out of reading. Our team supports central Books creative needs as well as Author and Publishing experiences, while fostering an inclusive environment where creative minds can thrive and innovate together. Basic qualifications 8+ years of design experience Have an online portfolio Experience art directing motion designers, illustrators, writers and content creators Experience partnering with technical partners for design implementation Experience in visual design demonstrated through concepts, case studies, documentation, mockups and style guides Preferred qualifications Knowledge of marketing fundamentals and ability to implement them to create dynamic advertising solutions Knowledge of typographic and brand design principles Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on factors including market location and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
