Warehouse Lead – Essex Food Ingredients
Job Summary
The Warehouse Lead performs the duties of the warehouse associate and indirectly supports and leads the activities of all Warehouse Associates as defined by the Warehouse Operations Manager. Under the direction of the Operations Warehouse Manager, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recommendations for hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; aid in performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Hourly rate starts at $25.00/hr+, dependent upon experience.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Leadership, Management & Accountability
- Provides clear directions to warehouse associates and creates opportunities for them to succeed.
- Delegates work, as appropriate, and develops their skillsets to help them grow.
- Provides clear expectations regarding measurables, Core Values, roles & responsibilities to warehouse associates.
- Participates in quarterly conversations with warehouse associates and annual performance reviews.
- Provides the necessary tools to warehouse associates, including training, technology, personal time, and attention.
- Warehouse Management
- Perform duties of Warehouse Associate as needed.
- Maintain all Safety and Food Defense related policies and procedures to ensure all standards are achieved. Support all SQF policies and requirements.
- Act as a back up for PCQI practitioner.
- Support and promote compliance with all stated safety policies and requirements.
- Recommend changes designed to improve control and efficiency of logistics and warehouse operations.
- Perform Warehouse Operations Manager’s duties when absent or as requested.
- Keep accurate forklift maintenance records and report issues to service providers; ensure PMs are completed quarterly.
- Review, maintain, repair and report facility needs including housekeeping, repairs, painting, safety lighting, and small power equipment.
- Assist with checking outbound shipments and inbound receiving, including documenting damages for claims.
- Monitor supplies for warehouse operations and maintain timely inbound freight.
- Initiate and maintain Good Housekeeping practices.
- Perform routing responsibilities and driver scheduling as needed.
- Other duties as required.
- Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory accuracy by ensuring procedure compliance in all stock movements.
- Minimize product damage; train employees to comply with SOPs.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and implement corrective actions where needed.
- Assist with cycle-counts and quarterly inventory.
- Project Management
- Lead projects in the warehouse.
- Clerical/General Administrative
- Respond to routine emails and phone calls; perform office support tasks as needed.
- Prepare documents, filing, and related tasks.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or GED required; Associate Degree and a minimum 3-5 years related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasional driving; constant use of hands; ability to lift up to 100 pounds and maneuver up to 450 pound drums; ability to work in severe heat or cold; familiarity with forklifts and related equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, interpret safety rules and procedures; write routine reports; speak effectively before groups in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic arithmetic in all units of measure, including rates, ratios, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to follow instructions and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Maintain a current valid CDL for the vehicle operated (if applicable); Medical Examiner’s Certificate; Essex Grain forklift certification every 3 years.
Working Conditions
Full-time role; typical hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Overtime and hour adjustments may be required. No travel is expected.
