Overview

Phlebotomist role at Care New England. This position performs phlebotomy procedures, handles registration and data accuracy, processes specimens, and provides laboratory results to providers.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on patients of all ages using aseptic techniques and established procedures.
• Enter patient information into the correct hospital system, verify patient demographics, update and verify insurance information, and administer ABNs as needed.
• Organize and manage phlebotomy workload to ensure timely results for providers.
• Order tests in the computer system and contact physicians with questions related to test requests.
• File/scan scripts and insurance information, and prepare reports for delivery to the doctor’s office if needed.
• Prepare samples for courier pickup and/or deliver samples to the appropriate department to ensure specimen integrity.
• Maintain inventory of supplies to provide continuous service and minimize downtime.
• Clean and maintain phlebotomy work areas and carts following established procedures.
• Assist with training of new employees.
• Perform phlebotomy responsibilities at assigned locations as determined by management to meet department needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; minimum six months of related experience.
• Phlebotomy certification required for hires during or after 2012.
