**Everything we do is underscored by a why — and that why is one another.****Location:**Altru Hospital### ### 1200 South Columbia Road### ### Grand Forks, ND 58201Pay Range: $16.26 - $24.38**Summary:**\*\*\* Every other weekend required \*\*\* The Phlebotomist collects (capillary and venipuncture) blood specimens from patients of all ages, assists patients with non-blood collections and is responsible for specimen integrity through accuracy of patient identification, specimen labelling, collection steps and specimen transport. This position performs occasional point-of-care patient testing such as glucose. The phlebotomist provides exceptional customer service.**Essential Job Functions:*** Performs patient identification and specimen labeling according to standard operating procedures.* Understands the phlebotomy processes and techniques in order to obtain quality blood specimens to ensure that correct decisions are made regarding specimen collection.* Performs, interprets and reports point-of-care testing (e.g. glucose) and quality control.* Processes laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedure, e.g. printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, and retrieving.* Recognizes problems, takes appropriate action, documents problems and corrective action, and follows protocol to notify the Supervisor of problems in a timely manner so as not to jeopardize patient care.* Actively communicates throughout the shift and manages priority requests in a courteous and timely manner to ensure effective department workflow.
