Location: Indianapolis, IN (travel and shifts may apply as per center requirements).
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- In compliance with SOPs, perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect.
- In compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process.
- Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety, while ensuring a positive donor experience.
- Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process, health tests, appointment system, policies, nutrition and other information relevant to the donor; answer donor questions timely, accurately and professionally.
- Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff.
- Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process (machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, donor adverse events).
- Perform calibrations and verify maintenance as outlined in SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures; create incident documentation and manage equipment from service.
- Monitor donor flow to assure continuous turnover; alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
- Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
- Understand policies and procedures related to hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.
- Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies; follow Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs. Bilingual skills may be required at the organization's discretion.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For Centers located in CA: state certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or current Registered Nurse by the State of California (as applicable).
