Job Summary
Under the general supervision of a supervisor, the phlebotomist assumes the responsibility for safely performing venipunctures and related procedures in accordance with hospital and lab department policies and procedures.
Job Functions
- Successfully performs venipuncture on patients from neonates to geriatrics.
- Completes phlebotomy procedures in a timely manner.
- Reviews physicians' orders prior to performing venipuncture/exam.
- Follows hospital and departmental procedures regarding patient care, infection control, and National Patient Safety Goals (double identifier).
- Performs sweat chloride tests.
- Documents any orders needing clarification.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical assistant or phlebotomy certificate preferred
- BLS certification required
- Knowledge of needles, anticoagulants, and test preparation
- On-the-job or vocational training required
- Ability to read and write to follow instructions
- Excellent communication skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
