Location: Hickory NC

Schedule: 6am-6pm - will only work 8 hours shifts, but may need to travel

Requires pediatric, geriatric and hard stick experience. This is a float position, can travel from 30 minutes away to 2 hours. Mileage reimbursed. Requires a clean driving record. Must be comfortable doing a large amount of driving.

Responsibilities

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures as required.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure correctness.
• Package specimens for transport. Store specimens according to required temperature; label, and transport as per protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months\' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School diploma or equivalent or Phlebotomy Certification.
