Job Purpose and Summary

Within our Retail locations, CVS Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence, often being the first point of contact to assist patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience. They assist with ensuring pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through SOPs, best practices, and effective communication, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

Technicians complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until these requirements are completed, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager. A Technician is responsible for contributing to safe and effective operations of the pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Following pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care across pick-up, drive-thru, and phone interactions; offering immunizations and other services; solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Completing basic inventory activities as directed by leadership, including medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
  • Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
  • Maintaining scheduling flexibility and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic; voluntarily traveling to stores in the market as needed.
  • Complying with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and patient privacy and security.
  • Delivering additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowed by law and supported by training and certification.

Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Completing additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines.
  • Educating patients about vaccines and referring vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements.
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information and documenting for each applicable patient.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state. If a minimum age or educational requirement is not addressed by the state, the role requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent, or active enrollment in high school or a high school equivalency program.
  • Possess licensure and/or certification as required by the state; ensure compliance with state and local regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus to concentrate on a task, pivot between tasks, and ensure prescription information and labeling accuracy for patient safety.
  • Customer service and team orientation: proactively help people and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication skills: clear verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues; active listening.
  • Mathematical reasoning: calculate days supply, total tablets, and quantities needed to fill prescriptions.
  • Problem resolution: identify and address challenging patient or colleague interactions.
  • Physical demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, close visual acuity, and ability to lift up to 20 lbs as needed.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and convey information accurately.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisors or Managers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
  • Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs.

  • Time Type: Full time
  • Pay Range: The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $17.25 - $27.00. This range reflects base pay and may vary by experience, education, geography, and other factors.
