Overview
Phlebotomy Technician - Richfield, MN - Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM. The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing, Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.
Responsibilities
- Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned
- Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
- Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
- Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques
- Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames
- Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested
- Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
- Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
- Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor
- Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion
- Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if falls out range to group leader or supervisor
- Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at health fairs and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) by communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level
- Adheres to the standards identified in the clinics Organizational Competencies
Qualifications
Physical Requirements
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects. Weight range 1-15 pounds frequently; 16-25 pounds occasionally; 26-40 pounds seldom. Objects over 41 pounds require assistance.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; long hours of eye and hand coordination.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand.
- Position requires travel.
- Extensive use of phone and PC.
- Fine dexterity and steadiness of hands
- Talking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting
Knowledge, Education And Skills Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
- Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington
