Job Description

Phlebotomy Technician - West Saint Paul, MN - Monday-Friday 7:15am-3:45pm (Rotational Weekends)

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing, Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.

Pay Range: $23.00 - $28.00 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities

Essential Generic Job Functions:

  • Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned
  • Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques
  • Draws and delivers blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames
  • Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials
  • Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
  • Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
  • Reports incidents/issues timely to group leader or supervisor
  • Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion
  • Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if out of range
  • Travels to health fairs and PSA testing sites as needed and delivers specimens to laboratory
  • Identifies patient population needs and adapts care accordingly, communicating at the patient’s level
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the clinics Organizational Competencies

Qualifications

Physical Requirements

  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects; some requirements vary by weight ranges
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; long hours of eye and hand coordination
  • Repetitive tasks with dominant hand
  • Travel may be required
  • Extensive use of phone and PC; fine dexterity
  • Walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington
