Overview
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the face of our company to patients who come in, both as part of their health routine or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The PSR II draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The PSR II has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner. The PSR II will demonstrate Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants may be assigned to a doctor's office, a patient service center or as business needs dictate. The position requires flexibility for coverage between 6am-3pm on weekdays, and every Saturday from 6:30am-11am, with additional travel as needed to multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the area supervisor, perform daily activities accurately and on time.
- Maintain a safe and professional environment.
- Perform verification of patient demographic information and initials, including patient signature post-venipuncture to verify tubes were labeled in the patient’s presence and that the name on the label is correct.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
- Demonstrate organizational commitment and promote a positive image to patients, clients, employees and the public.
- Draw blood samples and prepare specimens for lab testing following established practices and procedures.
- Handle both forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing with confidence and accuracy.
- Communicate procedures clearly to patients and ensure a courteous patient experience.
- Travel to and cover multiple Patient Service Centers/In-Office Phlebotomy locations as needed with minimal notice.
- Be flexible to staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent REQUIRED. Medical training (medical assistant or paramedic) preferred. Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
- Experience: THREE years phlebotomy experience REQUIRED, including pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections. Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred. Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Skills: Excellent phlebotomy skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment; Superior customer focus and effective communication with peers, supervisors and patients; ability to adapt to change.
- Logistics: Must have reliable transportation, valid driver license, and clean driving record if applicable. Travel between sites required; floaters travel and mileage reimbursement apply. Availability to work across multiple locations with on-time attendance and full shift coverage.
- Compliance: Adherence to all Policies & Procedures, Company dress code, Employee Health & Safety, and Everyday Excellence guiding principles. Must be able to make decisions based on established procedures and exercise good judgment.
- Notes: Floaters travel between multiple sites and must be punctual and have a clean driving record; excessive absenteeism or tardiness may be grounds for termination.
Other details: Vaccination: No; Remote work: No; Time zone: Monday–Friday 6am–3pm; Saturdays 6:30am–11am. Must be available to cover shifts as needed. Candidates should verify commute times and reside within a 20-25 minute commute window to the site.
