Responsibilities

Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure proper ordering, cancellation, and billing of laboratory tests for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts. Perform specimen collection procedures for both inpatients and outpatients. Conduct non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution from patients.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications Required

• High school diploma or equivalent, PLUS;
• a. Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program, OR
• b. At least a two (2) year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty, OR
• c. Two (2) years of experience in specimen collection, processing, and requisitioning in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting, OR
• d. Clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab as part of clinical rotations for educational requirements (high school or college level), OR
• e. Valid, verifiable Phlebotomy Certification.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding and applying correct procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
• Sufficient feeling in fingers and visual ability to locate blood vessels.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Color vision acuity is required; applicants must pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology.
• Experience with computer systems and design.
• Public relations skills and service delivery training.

Work Hours:

Monday to Wednesday: 7:00 am - 7:30 pm
