Overview

The Medical Technologist Supervisor monitors all aspects of operations including daily monitoring of team member schedules, job performance and productivity; oversight of quality and safety standards; and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role (Phlebotomy Education and Training) will specifically provide Phlebotomy training and curriculum development, starting with the creation of the curriculum and then the supervision, revision, and implementation of said training program and curriculum. The person in this role will serve as the primary liaison between us and any affiliated Phlebotomy educational institutions. This person will supervise the Phlebotomy team and will promote a culture of positive guest relations and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor operations, including staff schedules, performance, productivity, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, supervise, revise, and implement the Phlebotomy training curriculum; serve as primary liaison with affiliated Phlebotomy educational institutions.
  • Supervise the Phlebotomy team and promote positive guest relations and customer service.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire

Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP Specialty or Categorical certification. Team members with required Credential Maintenance must obtain the number of continuing education hours as required by The Board of Certification Credential Maintenance Program (CMP). Individuals with ASCP certification prior to January 1, 2004, are not required to participate in the certification maintenance program.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment

Current Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by NCA or AMT National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP Specialty or Categorical certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist with at least three (3) years in a leadership role (senior/lead level with increased responsibility).

Education/Training

  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor\'s Degree in a Biological Science in addition to graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program OR Bachelor\'s Degree in a Biological Science with 10 or more years of on-the-job training in a hospital health care environment in a specific lab discipline performing high complexity testing in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology and clinical microscopy (categorical or generalist certification required).

Education/Training Preferred

Master\'s Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program.

Independent Actions

  • Performance, evaluation and reporting of procedures outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
  • Notification of panic values to ordering physicians and other customer service oriented communications.
  • Resolution of problems in testing and quality control; maintenance of SOPs; may make initial changes in SOPs as needed; must complete the required number of continuing education hours per year.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Perform the duties of a technical specialist in the Laboratory. Coordinate test schedules, quality control procedures, troubleshooting, maintenance of procedure manuals, training and documentation, and inventory control in primary areas of responsibility. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong commitment to the laboratory\'s mission of efficiency and quality. Positively influence peers and coworkers.

Additional Position Requirements

  • Rotating weekends as required.
  • Holiday scheduling as required.
  • On call availability, as required, for emergency coverage on any shift.

Physical: Lifting <20-50 lbs; Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Activities include prolonged standing/sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: Fast-paced environment, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adaptability to frequent change.
