Ophthalmic Tester is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist, assisting in providing excellent patient care during visits. The role includes handling a wide range of duties and using equipment to perform initial testing to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Practice urgency at all times with patient’s time, as well as doctor’s time and schedule
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient
  • Record medical history, current medications and confirming purpose of visit
  • Record all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Check condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Perform dilation, refraction, pressures, and a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, autorefraction and topography
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications
  • Complete general office duties as assigned by manager

Physical Demands

  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Stand, walk, and sit as required
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Education And/or Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • Favorable result on background check required
  • Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
