Location: Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA

This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Specialist 4 and is a fully qualified HVAC Technician responsible for performing journey level maintenance work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work. This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Duties

  • Independently perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of all phases of heating, ventilation, and cooling.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of HVAC related duties.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical systems.
  • Operate, inspect, maintain, repair, remove and/or install heating/cooling system components including: compressors, belts, bearings, motors, fans, heat exchangers, burners, filters, and controls.
  • Repair heat pumps and air conditioning systems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair hot water boiler systems.
  • Perform emergency, routine, and safety work orders related to HVAC.
  • Order materials as required for HVAC installation and maintenance.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey level standing as a refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by:
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades, OR
  • Full journey level status in Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, OR
  • Five years of experience in refrigeration and/or steamfitter trades, OR
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic may substitute year-for-year for up to two years of the experience requirement.

Certification/License

  • 06A Electrical License or Training Card (Desirable)
  • Universal CFC Recovery Certification

Knowledge Of

  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades and HVAC work.
  • Principles of operation of HVAC systems.
  • Occupational hazards and safety practices of the HVAC trade.

Conditions of Employment

  • Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks and obtain/maintain a DoD CAC with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level clearance. Background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to pass may result in termination.
  • Union Shop Provision: This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).
  • Driver's License: Valid to drive in Washington; must meet REAL ID Act requirements for base access.
  • Military Facility: Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation. Entry may require DBIDS; compliant identification may be needed (REAL ID).
  • Work Hours: Monday - Thursday (4/10 schedule) 6:00am - 4:30pm.
  • Telework: Not eligible for telework.
  • Travel: Occasional statewide travel up to 5% (including overnight).
