ENTRY SALARY: $55,240.50
Under general supervision, the Air Conditioning Technician performs general servicing, installation, maintenance, and care for ventilation and refrigeration systems within the City's municipal buildings and facilities.
Essential Functions:
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following duties, knowledge, and skills. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs all air conditioning and ventilation systems, equipment, components, and fixtures within the City municipal buildings and facilities; ensures functionality and operation.
- Responds to HVAC and refrigeration system outages and issues; provides mechanical and technical expertise to identify problems and resolve issues, including work on building automated systems, fire alarms, intrusion systems, and other service requests.
- Oversees and collaborates with contractors performing maintenance, installation, repair, and service of mechanical systems, effectively communicating to address problems and challenging issues.
- Reviews and evaluates specifications and plans for construction projects; provides expertise on refrigeration placement, specifications, and drawings; assists in HVAC and refrigeration installation and service decisions.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and designs; determines necessary work and establishes a timeline for completion; prioritizes emergent HVAC issues to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Services and repairs ice machines, refrigerated coolers, boilers, water heaters, pumps, and other refrigeration equipment.
- Keeps detailed records and files on work in progress and completed tasks, including plumbing work and ongoing tasks.
- Orders parts, provides training, and operates city vehicles and equipment used in job tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver’s license and EPA Universal Certification Card for handling refrigerants are required.
This position requires operation of HVAC maintenance tools, brazing torch, gauges, drills, vacuum pump, forklift, platform truck, and other equipment as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, plus one year of vocational training in air conditioning installation or repair, and two years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge:
- Practices, principles, methods, and skills in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance.
- HVAC control systems, including digital, low voltage, and high voltage controls.
- Construction site safety protocols and hazard precautions.
- Power tools and heavy equipment maintenance practices.
- Department policies and equipment maintenance methods.
Skills:
- Inspecting, repairing, installing, and modifying HVAC equipment.
- Providing maintenance and repair for HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Reading blueprints and manuals, interpreting codes and regulations.
- Engaging with customers and the public, understanding and following instructions, exercising tact and judgment within guidelines.
