This position is located in either the AC Shop of the Maintenance and Operations Section or the Internal Project Crew of the Engineering Service of New Mexico Veterans Administration Health Care System. The work involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, overhaul, calibration, modification, and repair of a variety of domestic, commercial, industrial and specialized heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performing, installing, maintaining and calibrating both electronic and pneumatic controls such as relays, humidistats, temperature controls, solenoid valves, chiller water valves, steam valves and other components used in conjunction with air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems.
  • Utilizing vibration analyzers, electronic thermometers, hydrothermograph recorders, metal brakes, Bridgeport machines, hydraulic punches and riveters, multimeters, etc. to carry out duties.
  • Performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, overhaul, calibration, modification, and repair to a variety of domestic, commercial, industrial and specialized heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Installing and servicing electric motors from 1/6 HP to 40 HP commonly used on air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and exhaust systems.
  • Making adjustments and recording findings such as compressor temperatures, water temperatures, oil pressures, and other information pertinent to the safe and efficient operation of all equipment.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements

Strenuous physical effort is required while dismantling and reassembling equipment. The incumbent frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work may involve ladders, scaffolding, and reaching into hard-to-reach areas. Stooping, bending, kneeling and hand dexterity are frequent requirements.

Working Conditions

Work inside and outside, including on rooftops and in cramped areas with low overheads and noise. Potential exposure to toxic refrigerants. Personal protective equipment must be worn when performing certain tasks.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element. Those with at least the minimal acceptable qualification proceed; others are found ineligible. The remainder are rated against the Job Elements: abilities to do the work without more than normal supervision; equipment installation, repair; interpretation of instructions and blueprints; technical practices; troubleshooting; use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. You will receive credit for qualifying experience.
