Job Description

Purpose and Scope: It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning.

Position Type: Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent on System needs. Applications are accepted year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct hiring is based on student demand. Classes may be offered day, evening and weekend at various locations. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Teaches Heating, AC and Refrigeration courses at a variety of times and locations
  2. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  3. Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  4. Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  5. Meets with and advises students before or after class or by appointment, electronically or by other appropriate methods
  6. Evaluates students to measure progress and informs students of their progress in a timely manner
  7. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  8. Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  9. Assumes other reasonable related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Mastery of course content

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and to work with a wide variety of people
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning

  • Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement and learning communities
  • Ability to engage students effectively using relevant strategies

Physical Abilities

The work requires considerable physical exertion, such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and self-defense as needed.

Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other standard office equipment; specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry
  • Interaction with internal and external contacts as needed
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with safety hazards typical within the industry
  • Hours vary with class time; instructors must meet scheduled classes and be available outside of class instructions

Required Qualifications

  • Associate\'s degree in AC/Heating & Refrigeration and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field

Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
