Overview

Columbia University Athletics offers elite-level opportunities for student-athletes to compete for Ivy League titles and NCAA Championships. With 31 varsity sports, Columbia Athletics is the largest NCAA Division I program in New York City and the only NCAA Division I sports program in Manhattan. The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support under the direction of the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach and the Associate in Physical Education.

The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach and Associate in Physical Education.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve a high level of competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions under the direction of the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.
  • Recruit student athletes effectively under the direction of the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Ivy League Conference, University, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations and/or Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic development, as well as the athletic welfare of student athletes.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing, speaking, and listening abilities.
  • Participate in continuing education conferences, workshops, or meetings to increase professional skills and knowledge.
  • Exhibit leadership and professional behavior in dealing with student athletes.
  • Complete all assignments made by the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach including but not limited to budget management, scheduling, and fundraising.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Qualification

  • A high level of competency in Track & Field skill instruction, motivation, and understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment.
  • Strong recruiting, teaching, and coaching skills.
  • An ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student athletes, staff, and alumni.
  • A high level of competency in Track & Field skill instruction and motivation.
  • Successful background in collegiate coaching, preferably at the D1 collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching in Track & Field preferably at the NCAA Division 1 level.
  • Proven skills in fan, friend, and fund-raising.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the Sprint Events (short, long, and relays) along with a high level of knowledge in strength and conditioning.

Preferred Qualification

  • College coaching and recruiting experience.
