Responsibilities
The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS manufacturers like Ametek, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, and Powerware/Eaton. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, equipment testing, emergency service calls at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities, and providing engineering and technical support to customers and divisions.
- Travel daily with an independent work structure
- Be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off call
- Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments
- Perform battery repairs, replacements, and installations
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance
- Interface with customers and communicate availability to the office and team leads
- Protect proprietary information and maintain accurate documentation
- Use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary
- Coordinate on-site subcontractors when needed
- Maintain vehicle safety and insurance compliance
- Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards and complete all required reports
- Provide technical support and maintain technical documentation
- Attend product-specific training and cross-train other technicians
Other duties as required.
- Inspect power electronic systems, including UPS, batteries, static transfer switches, PDU, and controls, ensuring compliance and quality standards
- Review system drawings and specifications for accuracy; determine maintenance and inspection requirements; resolve discrepancies
- Provide technical assistance, perform inspections, maintenance, and training; advise on maintenance practices; prepare reports and recommend system improvements
- Meet physical demands such as lifting batteries and working at heights, observing all safety standards
- Maintain expertise with various testing instruments, including multimeters, analyzers, infrared cameras, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Be available 24/7 when on call, with possible overnight travel
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Controls
Work under general supervision, with assignments based on schedules and priorities. The role involves independent action within established policies, with work reviewed for adherence, recommendations, and overall accomplishment. The primary goal is to ensure reliability, availability, and quality of power systems while maintaining or improving system maintainability.
Qualifications
- AA/BS degree in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent military/field training
- Minimum five years OEM experience or eight years in power electronic system maintenance and repair
Candidate Expectations
- Ability to interpret complex technical instructions, plans, and schematics
- Strong knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality procedures
- Ability to evaluate electrical systems, perform damage assessments, and diagnose malfunctions
- Proficiency with laptops, software, and communication devices
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Training and certification in manufacturer maintenance and power quality courses
Abilities
- Lift at least 100 pounds, 60 pounds for extended periods
- Relocate a 12-foot ladder, work at heights up to 60 feet, climb scaffolds and ladders
- Perform physical activities like walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching
- Good vision (corrected if needed), color vision, hearing, and communication in English
- Recognize problems and apply general rules to solve them
- Close-range vision, listening skills
Pay Range
USD $42.59 - USD $66.56 per hour
