Seasonal Line Cook

Reports to: Seasonal Food Leads, General Manager of Restaurant & Culinary Services, or Restaurant Manager

Seasonal or Non-Seasonal: Seasonal, Non-Benefited

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Provides quality service in food preparation and customer assistance throughout the zoo.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years old with valid ID
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of or ability to learn sanitation and safety regulations
  • Understanding of or ability to learn food handling, preparation, and cooking techniques
  • Work efficiently and quickly
  • Work well as part of a team and under pressure
  • Maintain personal cleanliness
  • Interact positively with diverse groups including guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare food batches cooked to order or kept warm
  • Operate large-volume cooking equipment
  • Prepare, wash, and cut food
  • Cook food according to orders and verify quality and quantity
  • Multitask by preparing multiple orders simultaneously
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow all zoo policies and procedures
  • Assist in zoo projects and events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for up to 5 hours
  • Communicate effectively in English
  • Work in all weather conditions
