Position Title: Sanitation Laborer (Seasonal)

Provo City is looking for a seasonal laborer to perform work for the sanitation division during their seasonal clean-up. This position focuses on the seasonal compost yard including monitoring the facility, assisting customers, and maintaining necessary files for operation. Qualified, civic-minded individuals are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour. Payment will be by direct deposit.

What will I do?

  • Facilitate customer needs including processing credit card transactions and answering questions.
  • Help residents understand the benefits of compost and how to use it.
  • Check and verify loads as they come into the compost yard including rejecting contaminated loads.
  • Attend to the compost yard and ensure that only Provo City Residents are allowed to access the facilities.
  • Prevent misuse of facilities by landscapers, developers, and contractors.
  • Load customers' trucks and trailers with loader as needed.
  • Handle sales of compost.
  • Operate vehicles as needed.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Fill out site related regulatory forms.
  • Monitor site for fires.
  • Monitor compost windrows including turning and temperature-taking.
  • Assist other crew members as needed and perform other related work as required.

What do I need to apply?

  • Any training or experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work.
  • Physical strength and agility enough to perform the work.
  • Ability to follow directions and communicate with the public in a courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of the safe use of hand tools and equipment required by the position.
  • Preference given to applicants with front loader experience and/or a commercial driver license.
  • Preference given for knowledge of composting, landscaping, or gardening.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires exposure to adverse weather conditions and odors. This position will require bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, and engaging with members of the public.

What are the hours and duration of the position?

This position is approximately 20 hours a week on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Approximately 9 months duration.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening held on October 6, 2025. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, the candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
