Costco IT is responsible for the technical future of Costco Wholesale, a global retailer with operations in fourteen countries. The Network Engineer role is part of the Costco Travel IT team, a dynamic, fast-paced environment undergoing exciting transformation efforts.

The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining, building, and operating Costco Travel’s global wired and wireless networks, providing local and remote network access, routing, switching, DNS, firewall, global WAN, cloud transit, and load balancing services to Costco Travel locations, including data centers, call centers, and campus/regional offices.

Role involves collaborating with Infrastructure Architects to ensure adherence to technical, compliance, and security best practices, and to support a culture of service, integrity, and excellence.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the Infrastructure Architects to develop strategies and directions for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
• Translates technical requirements into low-level network designs in collaboration with Infrastructure Architects.
• Plans and recommends network hardware, systems management software, and architecture with Infrastructure Architects.
• Configures and maintains physical and virtual network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers).
• Implements and maintains wireless infrastructure for corporate locations.
• Analyzes network capacity and availability to meet requirements while maintaining a secure environment.
• Configures and maintains tools for network monitoring, reporting, performance, and troubleshooting.
• Provides Tier 3 support and handles escalations for network infrastructure issues.
• Works with Infrastructure Architects to implement networks that comply with security and regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI, HIPAA).
• Identifies root causes of operational issues, resolves problems, and recommends mitigation strategies.
• Implements and configures network security products including stateful and next-generation firewalls.
• Creates, implements, and maintains automation scripts for network configuration and management (e.g., Python, Ansible, Git).
• Creates network diagrams and documentation.
• Leads or participates in RFPs/RFIs, PoCs, lab testing, and validation.
• Implements and configures network services such as 802.1X, NAC, IPsec VPN, RADIUS, NTP, SD-WAN, IPAM, monitoring, and logging.
• Participates in 24x7 on-call rotation.
• Collaborates with Infrastructure Architects to proactively plan for growth and improvement in network capacity.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ networking experience supporting complex medium to large enterprises.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience with networking technologies (Fortinet, Arista, Aruba, Check Point).
• Strong troubleshooting skills to isolate network faults.
• Thorough understanding of the OSI model and IPv4.
• Knowledge of security best practices, procedures, and compliance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs; occasional travel to data centers and other locations.
• CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or Arista Certification.

Recommended Qualifications

• Network+ Certification.
• Fortigate Certification.
• Checkpoint Certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

• Pay ranges: Level 1 - $85,000 to $110,000; Level 2 - $105,000 to $135,000; Level 3 - $130,000 to $160,000.
