As a member of the IT Management Team, you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team of employees. Your role includes guiding the functional responsibilities of your team, overseeing performance and deliverables, and developing your team’s strategic vision to align with the company and IT Division goals.

The Manager of Software Engineering for Costco Travel is responsible for defining and executing the development strategy for Costco Travel’s E-Commerce websites, web services platform, and supporting applications. This role ensures policies and procedures maintain industry-leading architecture, design, and development standards for all assigned areas and requires extensive knowledge of large, highly available, distributed web development environments with an emphasis on e-Commerce applications.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute development strategy for Costco Travel’s E-Commerce websites, web services platform, and supporting applications.
• Maintain proper policies and procedures to uphold architecture, design, and development standards.
• Lead and grow a development team, ensuring alignment with company goals and IT strategy.
• Serve as the primary conduit between employees and upper leadership to foster engagement, trust, and open communication.
• Drive adoption and adherence to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and project execution framework.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code review sessions as a coordinator, owner, reader, or observer.
• Stay current on new technology and recommend future directions.
• Create and manage resource plans for the development department.
• Drive execution of small to medium development projects and maintain a sense of urgency within the team.
• Ensure maximum quality of Costco Travel’s technology applications.
• Collaborate with peers to define standards, best practices, and the Technology department’s service level agreements.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching, and career development planning for team members.
• Define strategic direction and technology roadmap for Costco Travel’s applications.
• Support staffing, scheduling flexibility, and alignment with business needs (including nights, weekends, and holidays if required).

Qualifications (Required)

• 3+ years of current experience leading/managing an e-commerce and/or e-business application development team.
• Development experience in a Java-based environment.
• Recent commercial experience in Ecommerce, Web Services, and Web application development.
• Experience with SOAP and/or REST, MS-SQL Server and T-SQL, JDBC or equivalent data-tier frameworks, database design & development, Java EE technologies (Servlet & JSP), SOA.
• Depth of experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Strong leadership, team-building, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and planning skills; ability to build strategic and tactical plans.
• Ability to analyze situations for potential future problems and work under pressure.
• High sense of urgency and responsiveness.
• Scheduling flexibility to meet business needs including nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Pay Range: $137,000 - $200,000, plus bonus and RSU eligibility.
