Overview

Warehouse Specialist role at NAES Corporation. The Walnut Creek Coal Mine operates as a surface coal mine with equipment including an 80-cubic-yard dragline, a 29-cubic-yard mass excavator, a 24-cubic-yard hydraulic backhoe, and a fleet of 150-ton end-dump trucks. The mine produces over 2 million tons of lignite annually and runs a blending program for supplying a 308-megawatt power plant.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing all warehouse functions including receiving, storage, organization, and distribution of spare parts, consumables, coal handling equipment components, chemicals, safety gear, and mining materials to support continuous operations.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory tracking systems, conduct regular cycle counts, and perform full physical inventories to ensure accuracy and prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Assist in optimizing warehouse layout, storage methods, and equipment used to improve space efficiency and access to materials, including coal handling systems such as conveyors, feeders, crushers, and dust collection equipment.
  • Assist in managing logistics for inbound and outbound shipments, coordinating with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely receipt and distribution.
  • Assist in pursuing ongoing process improvements to boost efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve preparedness for scheduled or emergency maintenance.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, trucks, and cranes safely and in accordance with site policies.
  • Provide support for additional routine and non-routine tasks and projects as needed.

CMMS Utilization, Maintenance Support & Compliance

  • Learn how to use CMMS to manage procurement workflows—requisitions, purchase orders, vendor management, receipts, and invoices—while maintaining accurate data for inventory, assets, and reporting.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to optimize CMMS settings and support upgrades that improve supply chain and operational efficiency.
  • Support Maintenance by delivering tools, parts, and materials for planned and emergency work, assisting with light tasks, and preparing parts kits.
  • Maintain stock of critical spares and consumables to ensure mining equipment reliability.
  • Assist with audits, surveys, and data requests related to inventory, procurement, and supply chain.
  • Ensure warehouse operations follow policies, regulations, and safety protocols, particularly those related to hazardous material handling.

Working Relationships

The Warehouse Specialist reports to the Administrative Supervisor and coordinates with plant management and other plant personnel to support daily operations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires standing and walking for extended periods on uneven surfaces; climbing stairs, ladders, and equipment; working from elevated platforms or confined locations. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Mining environment may involve confined spaces, dust, fumes, vibration, high noise, moisture, extreme temperatures, and variable lighting. PPE is required (hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, respirators if needed, hearing protection, gloves, flame-resistant clothing, fall protection). Respirator fit testing may be required. No-smoking policies apply.

Fitness for Duty: Post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening are part of the program.

Work Schedule and Compensation

Typical schedule is Monday through Friday day shift with extended hours, occasional weekends/holidays, and possible on-call status.

Compensation: base pay rate from $20.05 to $28.08 per hour.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience managing warehouse or similar operations in industrial or mining settings, including inventory control, storage, and distribution of parts, chemicals, coal handling equipment components, and safety gear.
  • Knowledge of inventory systems and best practices including cycle counts and physical inventories; ability to optimize warehouse layout to support coal handling, processing, and storage operations.
  • Skills in operating forklifts, trucks, and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Familiarity with EHS regulations for warehouse operations and mining-specific safety hazards.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to support audits, surveys, and supplier performance tracking.
  • Open to training that aligns with safety and environmental regulations in the mining industry.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.
