Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to support environmental remediation projects. The operator will be responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment-such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and backhoes-to excavate, move, and manage contaminated soil, materials, and other substances in accordance with environmental regulations and site-specific safety protocols.

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to support environmental remediation projects. The operator will be responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment-such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and backhoes-to excavate, move, and manage contaminated soil, materials, and other substances in accordance with environmental regulations and site-specific safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment to excavate, transport, backfill, and grade materials on environmental cleanup sites.
- Support soil and groundwater remediation projects, including removal of contaminated materials.
- Follow site-specific health and safety plans, and comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of erosion control and stormwater management measures.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance to ensure safe operation.
- Work collaboratively with environmental scientists, field technicians, and project managers.
- Load and unload materials safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate logs of work completed and materials moved.
- Adhere to site access, decontamination, and dust suppression protocols.
- Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs) and daily safety meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction or environmental remediation.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; CDL is a plus.
- Ability to read site plans, grade stakes, and follow verbal/written instructions.
- Strong understanding of environmental compliance and health/safety standards.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Experience on Superfund, brownfield, or landfill projects.
- Familiarity with GPS-based grading systems.
- Knowledge of contaminated soil handling, segregation, and stockpiling protocols.
- Previous work with environmental contractors or consulting firms.
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- May require extended hours, weekends, and travel depending on project needs.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators and protective suits.
