Under general supervision, the position operates construction equipment for the maintenance of underground utilities. Employees in this classification perform skilled maintenance work. Position is responsible for operating various types of equipment to install or remove underground pipe, conduit, valves, hydrants, and fittings. Performs related work as directed.

- Operates construction equipment such as back hoes, loaders, and trenchers to remove, repair, and/or replace underground utility components.
- Operates heavy vehicles to deliver construction equipment or materials to job sites; operates vehicles to remove debris from job sites.
- Performs preventive maintenance on construction equipment such as oiling, greasing, and inspections.
- Assists supervisors and others as needed for construction/repair tasks.
- Operates valves and hydrants to restrict or reroute water for installation or repair of water mains and sewer lines.
- Performs landscape restoration including laying asphalt, concrete and/or sod replacement.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools such as power saws, wrenches, and probes.
- Maintains logs of vehicle use, and work accomplished.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
