Overview

Heavy Equipment Operator role at Amentum. The position involves operating mobile heavy equipment, driving forklifts, and supporting the depot's transportation and storage operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple types of heavy equipment across the depot to relocate as needed.
• Drive a semi and a Yard Dog within the depot delivering parts to various locations.
• Pick up and relocate trailers to designated areas; load and unload trucks.
• Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
• Position trucks for loading/unloading, follow loading crew signals, and verify equipment is properly positioned.
• Obtain delivery instructions, verify routes, and maintain logs of working hours or vehicle service status in compliance with regulations.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, violations, or damage; secure cargo for transport using ropes, chains, binders, or covers.
• Drive to weigh stations, document weights, and comply with state regulations; operate trucks over 3-ton capacities including tractor-trailers.
• Obtain receipts/signatures for deliveries and collect payments when required; inventory and inspect goods for quantities and conditions.
• Operate equipment such as MRS wheel tractor and other heavy assets to tow or move heavy equipment and assist in re-warehousing and docking.
• Tow equipment across varied terrain and assist in cable/tow bar connections; perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; two years of equipment operation experience or completion of an apprenticeship.
• Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System (Testing Designated Position).
• Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; US Citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this location.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); position is covered by the civilian drug testing program.

Additional Requirements

• Must understand and use Technical Manuals; complete vehicle maintenance paperwork.
• Ability to use hand tools and hydraulic equipment; work in a team environment.
• Pre-employment drug screen and government background check required; NAC check may be required within 60 days of hire.
• Available for any shift, including weekends and other hours as needed; ability to read/write/speak English.

Work Environment

Typical warehouse environment with lifting up to 20-50 pounds, kneeling, standing, walking, and frequent communication; must be able to work under deadlines.
