The Walbec Group of companies is currently in its third generation of family leadership producing high-quality construction materials and delivering unparalleled professional design, engineering, and construction services.

We’re looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator responsible for operating several types of power construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This equipment may include but is not limited to, vermeers, gradalls, backhoes, excavators, front-end loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, compactors, all terrain grove cranes, all terrain forklifts, and other equipment.

Location: Southeast WI. Projects will vary by location, so reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to any job site is required as needed. This work will primarily be located in Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Operate multiple types of power construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., vermeers, gradalls, backhoes, excavators, front-end loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, compactors, all terrain grove cranes, all terrain forklifts).
  • Move construction materials, earth, and other materials at a construction site using appropriate machinery.
  • Read and understand grade stakes and automated machine control displays; perform rough and finish grade as needed.
  • Safely maneuver machinery in tight quarters, around people, traffic, and utilities.
  • Maintain and assist in repairing equipment as needed.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Punctual and dependable with the ability to work varied hours including nights, early mornings, weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to tolerate and work in variable weather conditions and dirty/dusty environments.
  • Member of a Local Operators Union, or willingness to become a union member (not required prior to employment; HR can assist).
  • Able to pass or have passed the Operators Union aptitude test when required.
  • Experience safely using machinery to move construction materials and to prepare land for construction.
  • Ability to read grade stakes and operate equipment that uses automated machine control displays.
  • Ability to perform rough and finish grading and operate in tight spaces around people, traffic, and utilities.
  • Clean, maintain, and assist in repairing equipment.
