Base Pay Range: $17.15 - $26.50 per hour (Depending on experience and job classification)
Scale Wage for State Jobs: $17.15 - $53.00 per hour (as per state scale wage requirements)
Job Description:
Francis O Day Co., Inc., a leading paving and excavation company operating in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking an experienced Asphalt Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role involves operating various heavy machinery such as pavers, rollers, and milling machines for asphalt paving projects. The successful candidate will contribute to private and state-funded projects.
Requirements:
- Strong verbal communication skills, ability to read and write.
- Ability to work with and without direct supervision.
- Complete and abide by all safety training and other provided training.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Experience operating heavy equipment (pavers, rollers, milling machines, etc.) used in asphalt paving.
Job Duties:
- Operate paving machines, shuttle buggies, milling machines, asphalt rollers, and screeds.
- Inspect environment around equipment before operation to ensure safety.
- Operate equipment following safety and operational best practices.
- Perform daily and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Attend scheduled shifts according to company policy.
- Follow all safety policies and PPE requirements.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently sit, climb, and use hands to handle equipment.
- Occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach overhead.
- Lift up to 50-75 lbs. occasionally.
- Respond quickly to unexpected events.
- Work long periods standing and in adverse weather conditions.
- Wear protective safety equipment consistently.

- Outdoor work setting.
