ZipRecruiter is hiring: Construction Heavy Equipment Operator in Salt Lake City

We have several immediate opportunities for Construction Heavy Equipment Operators in West Valley, Utah. The ideal candidates shall have experience operating heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, loaders, and dozers in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with OSHA safety practices. They will be working with a team of foremen and laborers each day and will be responsible for maintaining safety and ensuring project progress.

Responsibilities Include

• Comply with safety rules and regulations per OSHA standards.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and maintain accurate records.
• Safely change buckets and attachments promptly.
• Perform safe trench excavation and backfill.
• Calculate and set proper grades and elevations.
• Follow the foreman's directions regarding daily production schedules and activities.
• Operate heavy equipment with attention to detail and safety, willing to work long hours.
• Understand and respect equipment limitations, including load weights, to prevent overloads and maintain stability.
• Read and interpret cut and fill stakes for proper equipment positioning.
• Coordinate with crew using hand signals or radio communication for equipment alignment.
• Move and position raw materials and finished components using material handling equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating equipment for underground utilities.
• Trained and certified to operate the specific equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant training and experience.
• First Aid training provided by the company.
• Clean driving record.
• Ability to drive on uneven surfaces, lift up to 40 lbs., sit or stand for extended periods, work in various weather conditions, and possibly in remote regions for extended periods.
• Willing to work 25-30 hours of overtime per week.
