Position
The Finish Blade Operator performs a variety of physical tasks, including operating heavy equipment and machinery and using power tools or hand tools for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment; specifically Cat equipment.
- Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding daily production schedule and activities.
- Work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals.
- Be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company-related training.
- Work with Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the job-site is safe and traffic is controlled prior to commencing work.
- Be a strong communicator and maintain contact with paver operator, truck drivers and general laborers.
- If driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), conduct pre/post trip inspections in compliance with laws.
- May operate trucks to transport equipment to and from production sites and assist in equipment maintenance.
- Inspect, clean and maintain equipment and machinery; report problems or malfunctions to supervision or shop personnel.
- Set up and tear down equipment; maintain a clean job site and secure the site daily.
- Understand material handling and storage in compliance with SDS sheets.
- Coordinate and work with contractors, sub-contractors and vendors to complete the job.
- Serve as front-line Company representative and provide excellent service to customers and the public.
- Use equipment and/or hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
- Perform other general labor as needed.

Safety
- This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to the company’s drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OSHA regulations.
- All employees must wear appropriate PPE.
- Acts as a safety ambassador by complying with laws and Company safety policy, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and addressing hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to communicate verbally with others on site; read printed materials; and perform tasks requiring stamina, lifting up to 50 pounds, and climbing stairs or ladders; ability to maneuver around various construction sites safely.
- Work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery and equipment per safety guidelines; outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, pathogens, gases, dust, loud noises, and moving vehicles or machines.
Position Type / Expected Hours
- Full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- Must be willing to travel to all job sites (including staying away from home if necessary).
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Work Experience and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Six months to one year related experience preferred.
- Ability to speak, read and write English is preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver’s license with clean motor-vehicle record. CDL preferred and may be required for some departments/divisions.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check required.
