Overview
Position will be open until filled. We are currently seeking a heavy equipment operator to join our team and perform skilled work in the operation of a variety of motorized equipment and heavy equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and road repair work; assist in resurfacing, oiling, patching, sweeping, grading and shaping roads; dig and fill holes; clear and repair roadway, shoulders and adjoining areas; install, clean, repair and maintain sewers, water pipes and hydrants; clear trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, grounds and facilities.
- Operate a wide range of specialized vehicles and motorized equipment, including front-end loader, dump truck, bulldozer, grader, backhoe, tractor, street sweeper, oil distributor, spreader, scraper, roller, chipper and water truck.
- Inspect, clean and perform routine maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment; identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Operate power equipment and specialized trucks to transport trash, debris and biosolids.
- Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks.
- Load and unload materials using power equipment.
- Complete required daily logs and reports.
- Perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies; perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards and traffic problems.
- Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
- Hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm (30 minute lunch); overtime is required. This is an on-call position.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

- Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Three years\' experience operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Must possess a valid eligible Texas Class A Commercial Driver License with a good driving record (additional compensation available for CDL A of $300/month); specific technical skills training and certifications may be required.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work is performed outdoors.
- Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 113 pounds.
