HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR (STORM WATER) Job at City of San Angelo in San Angelo

Overview

Position will be open until filled. We are currently seeking a heavy equipment operator to join our team and perform skilled work in the operation of a variety of motorized equipment and heavy equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Perform skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and road repair work; assist in resurfacing, oiling, patching, sweeping, grading and shaping roads; dig and fill holes; clear and repair roadway, shoulders and adjoining areas; install, clean, repair and maintain sewers, water pipes and hydrants; clear trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, grounds and facilities.
2. Operate a wide range of specialized vehicles and motorized equipment, including front-end loader, dump truck, bulldozer, grader, backhoe, tractor, street sweeper, oil distributor, spreader, scraper, roller, chipper and water truck.
3. Inspect, clean and perform routine maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment; identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
4. Operate power equipment and specialized trucks to transport trash, debris and biosolids.
5. Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks.
6. Load and unload materials using power equipment.
7. Complete required daily logs and reports.
8. Perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies; perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards and traffic problems.
9. Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
10. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm (30 minute lunch); overtime is required. This is an on-call position.
11. Regular and timely attendance is required.

• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Three years\' experience operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Must possess a valid eligible Texas Class A Commercial Driver License with a good driving record (additional compensation available for CDL A of $300/month); specific technical skills training and certifications may be required.
• Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Work is performed outdoors.
• Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 113 pounds.
