Position Summary
The Mine Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment (mainly bulldozer and excavator) used in construction, maintenance, and excavation.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in excavation and site construction
- Follows company safety procedures and reports issues to foreman, superintendent, safety director, or HR manager
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; cleans equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor
- Possesses knowledge of moisture condition, cut grade, and ability to load trucks; knowledge of cutting and filling grade
- Preferred knowledge of GPS
Required Education, Experience, And Qualifications
- Must have at least 3-5 years of recent experience in construction as a heavy equipment operator
- Experience operating bulldozers and excavators
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
- Friendly disposition, personable and professional
- Must work independently and as part of a team
- Recognizes confidential information and maintains it according to standard procedures
- High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
- Excavator and Dozer experience required
- Roller experience a plus
- Motor Grader experience a plus
- Articulated Truck experience a plus
Working Conditions
- Varied physical activities including bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, standing, walking, crouching, crawling, and more; long periods of standing
- Moderate to heavy lifting; ability to move and lift up to 40-pound skids or pallets
- Prolonged periods of sitting on equipment; exposure to dust, fumes, gases, noise, vibrations, and varying climates
- Required use of protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed
- Able to work under stressful conditions and react quickly
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions; complete tasks with frequent interruptions
- Ability to travel within the facility as required for safety inspections
