Full Time Heavy Equipment Operator - Street
Responsibilities:
- Operate a wide range of heavy equipment, vehicles, and hand tools to maintain, repair, and construct streets, drainage, and alley systems.
- Work alone or with a crew to accomplish assigned tasks.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Two years of experience operating heavy motorized construction equipment such as track excavator, track loader, rubber tire loader, backhoe loader, etc.
- Skills to operate heavy equipment effectively and safely.
- Understanding of pavement maintenance and construction.
- Basic knowledge of grading and excavation techniques.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment in the field.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of heavy equipment operation experience, OR
- Sufficient education to read, write, and perform basic math, plus five years of heavy equipment operation experience, OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training providing the required skills and knowledge.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Texas Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement required upon hire; ability to obtain Texas Class A CDL within 180 days.
- Satisfactory driving record required.
Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards:
Primarily outdoor work, with potential exposure to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter.
Tools and Equipment Used:
- Operate various heavy and light equipment, including excavators, loaders, tractors, rollers, skid steers, dump trucks, and haul trucks.
- Use hand tools such as saws, bolt cutters, pickaxes, shovels, rakes, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting torches, and hammers, following safety precautions.
