Overview

Scotty's Contracting and Stone is seeking a highly experienced CDL Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Heavy Civil Division. The position involves operating commercial vehicles to transport materials, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites. The candidate will perform various operative/labor tasks as needed to support job site operations. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to operate various large construction equipment when necessary, including but not limited to loaders, backhoes, track hoes, haul trucks, and water trucks.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Adhere to all company, local, and federal safety regulations and protocols to minimize risk to workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
• Follow directions from the crew leader for assignments and job duties.
• Perform minor servicing maintenance or refer major problems to Foreman and Shop Manager.
• Remain aware of site conditions and report hazards or issues promptly to the lead or foreman.
• Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, fostering teamwork and a collaborative, professional environment.
• Complete required documentation (e.g., incident reports or site logs) according to company standards.
• Be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Perform other physical tasks required to maintain the job site.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid CDL.
• Three years of experience performing similar key responsibilities.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle report in good standing.
• Strong attention to safety and adherence to protocols.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

• Climbing: Ability to safely climb into and out of equipment greater than 10 feet high on uneven terrain, multiple times daily.
• Heights: Work safely at heights exceeding 10 feet.
• Balance: Stand and walk on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
• Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
• Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
• Awkward positions: Getting to and from sitting and kneeling positions.
• Heavy lifting: Up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
• Conditions: Outdoor work in a heavy civil construction environment with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.

Work Environment

This position is predominantly outdoors in varying weather conditions. The Heavy Equipment Operator with CDL must be prepared for changing environmental conditions and able to adjust to the demands of an active construction site.

• Physical stamina required for standing, climbing, and bending for extended periods.
• Frequent climbing into and out of large equipment (>10 feet) with exposure to noise, dust, and active machinery.

The selected candidate should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions, with safety gear such as gloves, helmets, and protective eyewear required during all operations.
