Electrical Design Engineers contribute to the successful completion of projects by utilizing design experience to accomplish technical engineering task work and deliver customer solutions. The Electrical Design Engineer Level 1 relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to plan and accomplish goals and works under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in directing, coordinating and exercising functional authority for design, planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects within an assignment.
  • Assist in analysing engineering schematics, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
  • Produce accurate and self-verified electrical device and panel layouts; motor, control, I/O schematics and bill of materials.
  • Assist in reviewing design for compliance with engineering specs, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Provide project support to the field engineers, project managers, purchasing and panel fabricators.
  • Use computer aided design/drafting software to develop designs.
  • Communicate task completion status to the Supervisor.
  • Design and develop layouts for electrical circuits or systems for power distribution. Assist in the production of detailed schematics.
  • Interface with customers on a limited basis for installation and commissioning support to design modifications needed to support project needs.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to travel to customer facilities as needed and work non-business hours based on project and customer needs.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical equipment and local building codes (e.g., UL508a, NEC and NFPA 70e).
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures related to design.
  • Ability to exercise a limited degree of creativity and latitude; independent thinker and problem-solver.
  • Self-starting instincts and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail and good organizational skills.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, or equivalent, in a related area. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Required: AutoCAD, Excel
  • Preferred: HMI graphics, PLC programming experience, Networking experience
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain facility security clearance as needed

Software/Tools Used

  • AutoCAD or AutoCAD E
  • Knowledge of local building codes such as UL508a, NEC and NFPA 70e
