The Opportunity
CACI is seeking a talented hardware System engineer to join our Capabilities Development group within the Command, Control, Communication, and Intelligence business line. In this role, you will design, enhance, and maintain complex hardware systems for the US Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) community. The selected candidate will perform a variety of engineering tasks including analysis, design, and development in target product areas. The hardware system engineer will work both individually and as part of our larger development team. Candidates must be self-motivated individuals who can understand technical concepts, communicate clearly, and are able and willing to collaborate on technical items within the larger project team.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain detailed system diagrams, wiring diagrams, power budgets, BOMs, etc. for IT Shipboard systems
- Create and maintain hardware specifications, test plans, and technical reports and documentation
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of hardware prototypes to ensure functionality and performance
- Participate in on-site system installations, providing technical expertise during deployment
- Experience with component selection and BOM management
- Conduct thorough factory and site acceptance testing to ensure system quality and performance
- Develop and present design reviews to internal teams and stakeholders, clearly communicating technical concepts
- Prepare and participate in customer/user presentations and reviews
- Prepare and complete Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) to meet program documentation requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- Proficiency in CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar)
- US Citizenship and ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
- Bachelors or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field from an ABET accredited university.
- 5+ years of experience in hardware system engineering, preferably in DoD electronics, telecommunications, and/or consumer related industries.
- Proven experience in designing and developing hardware systems, including creating schematics, technical documentation, and occasionally PCB layouts.
- Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, signal integrity, and EMC/EMI considerations.
- Experience with hardware debugging tools and techniques (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers).
- Familiarity with various communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, USB, 10/40/100GbE, PCIe, SATA, Aurora, RapidIO, DDR5, LVDS).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of reliability concepts and their application on system performance.
- Willingness to help define/document scope and requirements.
- Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs.
- Self-starter with good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
Desired:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
- 7+ years of experience in systems engineering for SIGINT or related defense projects.
- Experience with thermal management and mechanical design considerations.
- Experience with radio frequency (RF) communications and/or radar systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and tools (e.g., 3D printing).
- Familiarity with signal processing techniques and DSP implementation in hardware.
- Knowledge of signal processing fundamentals.
- Willingness to learn and apply the best technology for a given application or service.
- Experience with programming and scripting languages such as Python.
- Experience with DevSecOps pipeline tooling such as GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, Ansible and/or Foreman, etc.
- Understanding of software design concepts, patterns, tools, and best practices.
- Recent experience with the integration of VPX formfactor systems.
- Experience with Matlab.
- Experience with Fiber Optic standards and hardware switching platforms.
- Experience with large Shipboard system installations and requirements.
- Experience in transitioning development program to production.
- Familiarity with Optical cable designs.
- Familiarity with Large SAS/NAS and Server processing systems.

Salary: The proposed salary range for this position is $82,700 - 173,900 USD. Final salary is determined by a variety of factors including location, experience, and qualifications.
