Job Description

  1. The Hardware Technician 2 provides Tier 2 and 3 on-site and remote support for computer workstations, servers, printers, peripherals, and teleconferencing equipment.
  2. Conducts site surveys; assesses and documents current site configuration and user requirements.
  3. Analyzes existing requirements and prepares specifications for hardware acquisitions.
  4. Develops hardware installation schedules.
  5. Prepares drawings documenting configuration changes at each site.
  6. Prepares site installation and test reports. Trains site personnel in proper use of hardware.
  7. Builds specialized interconnecting cables.
  8. Troubleshoots, repairs, and tests computer workstations, servers, printers, peripherals, and teleconferencing equipment.
  9. Installs and configures computer workstations, servers, printers, peripherals, and teleconferencing equipment and associated cabling.
  10. Maintains government and/or vendor-manufactured fiber optic modems, multiplexers, fiber optic/Ethernet cables, and telephone systems.
  11. Follows standard operating procedures for the Connectivity Operations Team, including the use of ticketing systems and documentation.
  12. Supports network upgrade projects or initiatives.
  13. Supports end-user connectivity needs.

Requirements

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Minimum education and experience level: High School/GED with 7 years of experience. Equivalent education and experience: Associate’s degree and 5 years of experience.
  • Must have one of the following 8570 certifications: A+ CE, NET+ CE, SSCP.
  • Highly skilled in installing, repairing, and troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Well-versed in installing Windows, software, applications, antivirus, and patches.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Effective time and priority management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in working remotely with end-users.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Windows 7 and 10.
  • Familiar with Active Directory security and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle.
  • Availability to work an 8-hour shift between 6am-6pm, as determined by management.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and periodic work in tight areas.
